Recently I had the opportunity to talk to students at Murray High Career Day. I learned that Murray High School has been putting on Career Day workshops for over 40 years. Students had the opportunity to choose from 75 different workshops depending on the career they are interested in. I was able to meet quite a few of the 75 presenters attending that day. I was amazed at the selection available to the students and the level of preparation and planning that went into the event. I was asked to present the career aspects of a contemporary rock musician. I presented to two groups of 30 students for about 30 minutes each. The kids were stoked because this was the first time they had a presenter for that category. We talked about all the hats you have to wear as a rock musician including songwriting, recording, live performance, promoting, marketing, and industry changes, among other things. I performed some of my original music and then had a Q&A session. It was awesome to feel the excitment and energy the students have for music and listen to the goals they have set for careers in the music business. A big thank you to Rebecca Selph of the school district for inviting me to be a part of Murray High Career Day!
